چکیده

When present, ascites usually disappears after portacaval shunt. In an oc· casional patient, however, ascites may appear after portacaval shunt even when not present before operation. This work reviews the mechanisms of ascites formation following patent portacaval shunt. Hepatic hemodynamic studies were performed in 24 patients with alcoholic liver disease. The results suggest that ascites is more likely to occur after end-to-side portacaval shunt in those patients who maintain a relatively high sinusoidal pressure and hepatic arterial blood flow.

Splanchnic and Systemic Hemodynamics in Cirrhotic Patients With Refractory Ascites. Effect of Peritoneovenous Shunting

The splanchnic and systemic hemodynamics of 14 patients with refractory ascites were studied and were compared to those of 15 patients with ascites responding to medical treatment. Among the 14 patients, 10 were grade B and 4 C, according to the Pugh classification. Of the 15 patients, 5 were Pugh B and 10 C. In patients with refractory ascites, free hepatic venous pressure was significantly hi...

Plasma volume in cirrhosis of the liver: its relation of portal hypertension, ascites, and renal failure.

Plasma volume was measured by using albumin-(131)I- and (51)Cr-labeled erythrocytes in 24 control subjects, 140 patients with hepatic cirrhosis, and 10 patients with various portal-systemic shunts for the relief of noncirrhotic portal hypertension. The cirrhotic patients included subgroups with ascites, functional renal failure, and portacaval anastomoses. Elevated values for plasma volume, by ...

Relationship between venous blood gas parameters, thyroid hormone levels and ascites syndrome in broiler chickens exposed to cold temperature

The objective of this study was to find a relationship between blood gas parameters and thyroid hormoneactivity with ascites syndrome in broiler chickens exposed to cold temperature and receiving a high qualitydiet. One hundred and sixty one-day-old broiler chicks were randomly divided in two equal groups. Toincrease the incidence of ascites, chicks of group 1 were fed ad libitum with a higher ...

Dogs with experimental cirrhosis of the liver but without intrahepatic hypertension do not retain sodium or form ascites.

Dogs with portal cirrhosis but without portal hypertension (end-to-side portacaval anastomosis) retain sodium and expand plasma volume before ascites formation. In our study, dogs were subjected to bile duct ligation and simultaneous side-to-side portacaval anastomosis (PCA) in order to create a canine model of hepatic cirrhosis without intrahepatic or portal hypertension. The effect of normali...

Anatomical parameters of cardiopulmonary system, venous blood pCO2and pO2tensions and the development of ascites syndrome in two genetic line chickens that are differing in their growth rate

The present study was designed to examine the anatomical parameters of the cardiopulmonary system, the function of venous blood gas parameters and the development of ascites incidence in two genetic line chickens. Three hundred forty day-old chickens from two pure broiler breeder lines, which were different in their growth rate and susceptibility to ascites syndrome were obtained. The relative ...
